Scope and Contents
The collection consists of manuscript drafts and research materials for chapters 18-27 of Carl Bakal’s Book “Charity USA: An Investigation Into the Hidden World of the Multi-Billion Dollar Charity Industry.” The research materials consist of printed materials, clippings, interview notes and other similar materials.

Biographical / Historical
Carl Bakal, a writer, editor and public relations man was born ca.1918 in New York. He graduated from City College in 1939 and spent the war and postwar period on photo assignment for the Army Signal Corps in the Far East and Germany. After the war he held editorial positions at The New York Mirror and at Coronet magazine, among others before turning to freelance writing. He wrote a number of books, among them “The Right to Bear Arms” (1966) and “Charity USA.: An Investigation Into the Hidden World of the Multi-Billion Dollar Charity Industry” (1979). Carl Bakal died on March 18, 2004.
